The first bike built for the trails.

For riders ready to follow you off the path, whether they are moving up from a hybrid or starting out off-road. A suspension fork, disc brakes and seven gears, so rough ground no longer turns them back.

Will it fit?

Height 115 to 135cm
Inside leg from approx. 55cm
Ages 6 to 9
Weight 12kg ready to ride, with pedals and kickstand

A suspension fork and disc brakes on a 20in bike is an unusual pairing at any price. The fork keeps the front wheel settled over roots and stone rather than skipping off them, and the discs mean a rider can slow down properly on a wet descent. Together they make a first trail ride far more fun, and far more likely to be repeated.

What you get

  • Front suspension fork, 40mm of travel. The fork compresses over roots and stone instead of bouncing the front wheel off line, so they keep their speed and stay in control on rough ground.
  • Mechanical disc brakes, front and rear. The pads grip a steel rotor at the hub rather than the wet rim, so they stop just as well in the wet as in the dry. The levers are sized for small hands.
  • Shyre Junior Fit. 140mm cranks, a 500mm bar and a junior saddle. The shorter pedal circle suits a child’s leg length, and the narrower bar puts their hands at shoulder width rather than beyond it, which makes the bike easier to control off-road.
  • LTWOO 7-speed drivetrain with a thumb shifter. One shifter on the right, worked with the thumb, so changing gear takes a single click. An LTWOO A2 SL rear mech and enough range to get them up a climb sitting down.
  • 6061 aluminium frame, 12kg ready to ride. Weighed with the pedals and kickstand on. Heavier than our hybrids, because that is what a fork and discs weigh, and it is covered for life.
  • 28-hole double-wall alloy rims on 2.35in tyres. Double-wall rims and a higher spoke count take repeated drops better than a lighter road wheel, and the wide tyre gives grip in mud without feeling slow on hard paths.
  • Quick-release seatpost clamp and kickstand. Drop the saddle for a descent, raise it for the climb back, no tools needed.

If they have never ridden off-road

Start on a blue-graded trail rather than a bridleway. Trail centres grade their routes, and a blue is built to be ridden by someone still learning, with the surprises taken out of it.

Let them lead. Riders pick their own line better than they follow yours, and the ride lasts longer when they are setting the pace. A pair of gloves is worth more than any other bit of kit at this stage.

How to measure their inside leg

Stand them against a wall with their shoes on. Hold a hardback book between their legs, spine upwards, and raise it until it sits comfortably. Measure from the top of the spine to the floor.

This is more reliable than age. Children of the same age can differ by 15 to 20cm in height, and as much again in leg length.

A basic tool kit is in the box and there are assembly videos to follow.
